Demand for overnight train from Bidar to Bangalore

Union Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge will review railway projects in the district here on Wednesday. He would hold a meeting with officials, Ishwar Khandre, MLA, said here on Saturday. “Completion of the Bidar-Gulbarga line, overnight train connectivity between Bidar and Bangalore, and starting surveys for new lines between Bidar and Nanded in Maharashtra and Bidar and Bodhan in Andhra Pradesh are some of the issues to be discussed at the meeting. We have also sought a survey for a new line between Humnabad and Solapur via Basavakalyan,” he said.

Rejected

Mr. Khandre said there had been a demand for an overnight train to Bangalore from Bidar.“We had demanded a change in the timings of the Nanded-Bangalore Express to ensure that it leaves Bidar in the evening. However, officials rejected it citing technical reasons,” he said.“Work on the Bidar-Gulbarga line is in progress. A new line has been laid between Khanapur, a satellite station in Bidar, to Humnabad. The Minister has promised to start a service between Bidar and Humnabad from August 15,” Mr. Khandre said.

He told presspersons that Mr. Kharge would hold a public grievance meeting at the zilla panchayat office earlier in the day.

The DCC would felicitate him at a function at Ganesh Maidan. “If it rains, the venue will be shifted to Barid Shahi Palace community hall near Ambedkar circle. N. Dharam Singh, MP, MLAs, and MLCs would be present,” Mr. Khandre said.

He denied media reports that the DCC was divided into two camps, one led by Mr. Khandre and the other by Rajshekhar Patil, Humnabad MLA.

Mr. Khandre also denied reports that he was responsible for the swapping of district in-charge Ministers between Bidar and Raichur.

“Some MLAs from Raichur had urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appoint Sharanprakash Patil as the district in charge Minister. I asked the Chief Minister why the change was made. I had no role in getting Umashree as the Minister in charge of Bidar,” he said. Khaji Arshed Ali, former MLC, and Aravind Arali, DCC general secretary, were present.
