Train with self-generated electricity will run between Nagpur and Indore

The western railway is planning an engine for Indore-Nagpur route which would run on self-generated electricity.
Strength of this W-7 engine would be around 6,000 HP. This could run on difficult terrain with 24 coaches easily. Till now two engines are used in such areas where the train passes through tough territory.

A senior railway officer told DNA that the engine uses a unique technology. Once the engine carries coaches to a certain height, wheels of the coaches using friction generate power. This power runs the train for next 8-10 km.
The engine would be used between Indore-Nagpur route as this path has several difficult turns.

The innovative engine does not require any maintenance for around 3500 km. The modern engine would also help in saving electricity and would be used in weekly Indore-Nagpur train.
Such engines are being modified in Kapurthala rail coach factory and being used in Rajdhani express trains, said railway spokesperson Pradip Sharma.

He added that Indore-Nagpur route has a 36km stretch at Paratvada. In that area the train is required to travel 18km of area in upward direction and is required to scale down similar length of area.

The innovative engine would not run the train on self-generated energy but all the electric appliances of the train including fans, tube lights, bulbs and even air conditioners could also be fuelled with the same energy.
