Title - BMC to give funds to build four FOBs

In a bid to reduce accidents at railway crossings, the BMC has agreed to give funds to the Central Railway (CR) for the construction of four foot-overbridges (FOBs) on the Harbour Railway Line between Mankhurd and Govandi.

These bridges will form a crucial link for east-west connectivity between the two stations where a number of accidents have taken place in the past. “There have been many accidents as there is no connecting link between east and west. The railway authorities have identified some of these accident-prone spots and proposed bridges here. We have agreed to fund CR’s construction of these as it is essential for the people,” said G Aggarwal, chief engineer of roads, BMC.

FOBs will be built across the railway line at Mankhurd railway station towards Vashi, and at Govandi station near Ankur Cinema and the CR has demanded Rs 2,66,000 and Rs 1,84,000. Another FOB has been proposed near Lallubhai compound (Agarwadi) for which the CR has demanded Rs 1,76,000. A fourth bridge between Tata Nagar and Kamud Vidyamandir has also been proposed and approved.

The bridges wing of the roads department has approved of the general agreement drawing (GAD) for the four FOBs.

“They have submitted the drawings to us and for some of the bridges, the funding process has already begun. The payments are on a depository basis and will be given as and when the CR asks for it,” said another senior official of the roads and bridges department.
