Title - Udupi: RYS welcomes first Pune-Panvel-Ernakulam train at Indrali Railway Station

Udupi: As the first train 22149/50 Pune- Panvel – Ernakulam arrived at the Indrali (Udupi) Railway Station on Thursday, January 17, 2013, it was greeted enthusiastically on behalf of the Railway yathri Sangha Udupi.

RL Dais, the President of Railway Yathri Sangha and Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat welcomed the passengers by distributing sweets

Speaking on the occasion R L Dias said that On Nov 20, 2012 a letter was written to the union railway minister to approve stops to Kochuveli - Amritsar, Kochuveli - Dehradun and Ernakulam - Panvel - Poona trains. He was given time up to Dec 20 for a reply. The Sangha had in its emergency meeting held here on December 30 and had decided to stage a Rail Rokho protest on January 22 at the Udupi Railway Station from 2 pm to 6pm.

The sangha had also sent a notice to the railway department on this issue. After the notice Railway minister and Railway department agreed to have a halt for the 22149/50 Pune- Panvel – Ernakulam train. As per the demand, another 2 trains 12483/84 Kochuveli- Amritsar Express and 12287/8 Kochuveli – Dehradum Express  need to be stopped in Udupi. The Rail Rokho protest scheduled for 22 has been postponed  temporarily he said.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat thanked the Union Railway Ministry for responding to the needs of the people of Pune and Udupi.

Udupi consumer forum president Damodar Aithal, Former Lions District Governor Indrali Jayakar Shetty, Railway Yathri Sangha office bearers Mohammed Moula, S T Kundar, Sadanada Ameen, Shanker Narayan Kotian and others were present on the occasion.
