In two unrelated mishaps, two persons were killed after being run over by trains in Thrissur on Wednesday. One of them is yet to be identified.

According to the police, the local people alerted them in the morning about a man, aged around 35, who was run over by a train near Pottoor.

In another incident, a man, who has been identified as Thilakan, 40, of Vadakkanparambil (information received from a RC Book recovered from the body), was run over by a train near Mulamkunnathukavu Railway Station in the morning.

The Viyyur police removed the bodies to the Medical College Hospital in Thrissur for autopsy.

Both the persons died on the spot after they were hit by speeding trains, the police said.

The Viyyur police have registered cases and an investigation is on into the incidents.

Meanwhile, residents near the railway track have voiced their concern over the frequent deaths on tracks in the district.

Two sisters were killed after a speeding train hit them while they were crossing the track at Cheruthuruthy on Sunday evening.

The death of Ramseena Ummer, 13, of Kodankunnath, Vettikkattiri and Rejina Ummer, 10, had sparked protest against the Railway authorities.
