The Kerala State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has asked a train ticket examiner (TTE) to pay Rs.25,000 as compensation to an elderly female passenger for behaving rudely with her.The commission insisted that not the Railways, but the employee himself, pay the compensation, along with Rs.500 towards litigation expenses. Alice Joseph, a retired high school teacher, had in November 2008 boarded the Malabar Express from Kanhangad.Though she had been allotted a berth by a TTE, and her ticket was kept by her son-in-law who was in another compartment. Another TTE who demanded to see her ticket late in the night, tried to force her out of her compartment claiming that she was travelling without ticket. She was treated rudely and arrogantly by the TTE and abusive terms were hurled at her.
