Title - Tiruchi railway division gets proactive in saving energy

Tiruchi railway division has initiated various measures to conserve energy and was saving Rs.25 lakhs per year through these efforts.

Conventional electrical gadgets have been replaced with energy-efficient and environment-friendly T5 lamps, electronic chokes, CFL and electronic regulators. It has been planned to install a solar panel with a capacity of 10 KW at the divisional office, solar water heater at Tiruchi running room and replacement of 3,300 numbers of conventional fittings with energy efficient T5 fittings, a Southern Railway press release here said.

The release further said prizes were distributed to the winners of essay and quiz competitions conducted as part of the energy conservation week.

First prize

Tiruvarur Depot bagged the first prize among the seven depots for energy conservation measures in stations, service buildings, platforms and level crossing gates.

A seminar in connection with observance of energy conservation week was organised here on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the programme, Divisional Railway Manager Manjula Rangarajan said energy conservation should begin at home and its importance should be told to students while they were in school.

S. Kannan, Director, AMSET Energy System and Solutions Private Limited, Tiruchi spoke on “Climate Check from Energy Efficiency”. S. Jayakrishnan, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, T.John Arul Doss, Divisional Electrical Engineer and P.Kannan, Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer also spoke.

A brochure on energy saving tips was released at the seminar.
