The Central Railway (CR) has detected 2.19 lakh cases of ticketless travelling in November compared to 1.34 lakh cases reported in November 2011. This means there has been an increase of 63.43 % in a year. The fine collected from offenders is Rs10.38 crore compared to Rs6.04 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 71.85 %.These fines are the highest-ever earnings in a single month.The CR has been strict against ticketless travellers and has started undertaking massive checking drives.Around 11.97 lakh cases of ticketless travelling have been reported between April and November, compared to 9.49 lakh cases reported during the same period last year.The fine collected from the offenders between April and November is Rs53.37 crore, compared to Rs41.46 crore during the same period last year. This shows an increase of 28.73 % in ticketless travelling cases.In addition, 348 cases of transfer of reserved tickets have also been reported in November and an amount of Rs3.76 lakh collected apart from confiscating tickets. Transfer of reserved tickets means travelling on a ticket reserved in another person’s name. |
