Three students from the state have won the National Bravery Awards instituted by the Indian Council for Child Welfare.The awardees are Ramith K of Kannur, Mebin Cyriac of Alappuzha and Vishnu M V of Thrissur.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present the awards at the Republic Day function in New Delhi, said a release from the State Child Welfare Council which nominated the students.Fourteen-year-old Ramith is a ninth standard student of Thokkilangadu Koothuparambu High School, Kannur. He was chosen for the award for rescuing M V Padmini, 55, and Rajan, 48, from drowning in a pond. K Raghuthaman, a daily wage earner and Ramadevi of Appothappal House at Mattannur in Kannur are his parents.Mebin Cyriac, who hails from Kainakari in Alappuzha district, won the honour for rescuing his Botany teacher Baiju Thomas, hailing from Changanassery. Baiju fell into the Vembanad lake while travelling on a boat to St Mary’s Higher Secondary School at Champakkulam. Mebin is a Plus-II student of the school. Cyriac Thomas (salesman at a grocery shop) and Elizabeth Cyriac of Kunnuthara House, Kainakari are his parents.Vishnu M V was selected for the award for his stunning act of bravery which saved the life of a female student of Nirmala College, Chalakkudy, who accidentally fell in front of a moving train at Thrissur railway station. Vishnu who acted in a matter of seconds pulled her from the track before the moving training hit her. Seventeen-year-old Vishnu is a student of Government ITI, Chalakkudy. He is the son of M R Valsan of Manithara Karuvan House, Avanthur, Thrissur. | ||
