SHRI ADHIR RANJAN CHOWDHURY HOLDS MEETING REGARDING RUNNING OF TRAINS IN JUNGLE MAHAL AREA AT NORMAL SPEED

Kolkata, Dec.9, 2012 :Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon’ble Minister of State for Railways convened a meeting at 8 p.m. on Saturday(8.12.12) at the E.Rly’s Rest House at Judges Court, Kolkata in which Railway officers of S.E.Railway and E.Railway were present. The meeting was called to discuss ways & means to normalize the speed of train running through the Jungle Mahal area between Kharagpur and Tatanagar during night time(10 p.m. to 5 a.m.).At present, all trains are running at a restricted speed of a maximum of 75 kmph through this area.Instead the normal speed of 110 kmph.Night running of trains in the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section (134 kms)was stopped after the accident of 12102 Jnaneswari Express on 28th May, 2010.Although the train running resumed from 12th June, 2012 onwards in this section, the speed of the trains was restricted to 75 kmph due to security concerns.

Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Hon’ble MOSR showed keen interest in normalizing the speed of trains and said that all the trains are loosing punctuality as they are not able to run at the normal speed of 110 kmph.

The meeting was attended by the General Manager, South Eastern Railway Shri A.K.Verma, General Manager, E.Rly Shri G.C.Agarwal, Chief Security Commissioner-cum-IG/S.E.Railway Shri A.K.Singh, CSC-cum-IG/E.Rly Shri S.P.Sahoo and several other senior railway officers of South Eastern and Eastern Railway. However, no representative from the West Bengal police was present in the meeting.
