Indore: Thousands of passengers on the Delhi-Mumbai trunk route are risking their lives daily travelling on trains barreling down the distressed 120-year-old Bhairavgarh bridge in Ratlam.
Railway engineers had certified the bridge unsafe in 2003-04 and sought its immediate repair for it to sustain the pressure of at least 50 trains every day, with the premium ones being Rajdhani,August Kranti,Golden Temple,Avantika,Duronto and Sampark Kranti. But more than eight years since the distress note, the diversion tracks are far from ready while the current bridge keeps the train drivers nerves on edge.
Railway officials say that since the 330-metre-long bridge was declared distressed, trains have been running at a controlled speed of 30kph
