Efforts are once again on to revive the plan to develop the Secunderabad railway station into a world-class station.

“We are keen on this project and would shortly float tenders to finalise a consultant to prepare the project plan. The entire project would take three to four years,” said G.N. Asthana, General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR).

Till then, efforts would be made to improve passenger facilities by installing escalators and lifts and other provisions in the station, he announced. The station modernisation was in the cold for the last four years after it was stated that the Rs.5,000 crore project would be taken up under public-private-partnership mode.

There were proposals to develop the station vertically by constructing platforms on different floors and connecting them with escalators.

On the progress of the Rs.650-crore MMTS Phase II project, he said the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) had completed the survey of land, railway lines and other aspects.
