Hyderabad: Telangana march on Necklace Road, held on Sunday, left some bad memories as the supporters of statehood destroyed government and private property, said G N Asthana, General Manager, South Central Railways (SCR).

Asthana who inspected the damaged railway signaling equipment in the Necklace Road station and the damage done to the track, said that the signaling equipment, a mobile power unit and a static power junction had been set on fire. The officials had taken up restoration works on priority basis. Asthana, while talking to The Hans India, said that the approximate loss caused by the vandalism was more than Rs 50 lakh. The fibre optic cables alone would cost Rs 25 lakh.

Special teams have been deployed to restore the works, to ensure normal running of trains. Presently MMTS and other services have been suspended, in view of the damage to the cabin. He said that the government was taking appropriate action to file police cases against the agitators. The General Manager said that the incident had caused not only a huge loss to the railway property, but also the services to the passenger community would remain disrupted till the restoration work was completed.

Huge bundles of barbed wire removed by the crowds were found abandoned on the side of the road, and stones gathered to attack the police were strewn around the Jalavihar.
