The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Monday arrested two persons accused of vandalising the railway signal and communication system between Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar, which affected train services in the section earlier this week.The matter came to light when the Station Master of Nanjangud Railway Station informed the control room late on Sunday night that communication between Nanjangud and Chamarajangar section had failed. The Signal and Telecommunication engineers scouted the track and noticed that the signal cable laid across Railway Bridge no. 785 between Nanjangud and Chinnadagudihundi had been removed. A release said “due to the vandalism, the up-home signal at Nanjangud could not be operated and all the train services were operated on calling on signal and SPT resulting in late running of trains in the section”.On a tip-off, the RPF team from Mysore apprehended two persons — Ismail (19) of Saraswathy Colony in Nanjangud and Mohammed Yasin (18) of Rehmania Mohalla in Nanjangud and seized the implements suspected to have been used in the crime.The release said the stolen cables were also recovered from a scrap dealer in Nanjangud. The RPF have registered a case. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.Meanwhile, Vinod Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysore, has appealed to the public to inform the RPF control room on (0821) 2420216 about any such trespassing , encroachment or criminal activities. |
