The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Railway Board to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to Benudhar Bhoi who had lost a leg after he was allegedly pushed from a speeding train by a TTE near Bhadrak four years ago. Disposing a petition filed by advocate and human rights activist Prabir Kumar Das, the rights panel observed that prima facie there is evidence that the TTE had pushed Bhoi from the train and it was gross violation of human rights. An FIR has been registered on May 11, 2009 at government railway police station, Bhadrak against the TTE and chargesheet has also been filed before a local court in this regard. Bhoi had to get his right leg amputated as a result of the mishap. When the NHRC issued a notice to the Railway Board, the latter replied that the victim was travelling without ticket. The TTE directed him to get down at the next station but he tried to get down from the runing train, fell down and injured himself. The reply also revealed Bhoi has filed a claim application before the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT), Bhubaneswar and the amount of compensation shall be decided by the RCT. | ||
