Finally, railway authorities are planning to improve facilities at the Ernakulam Junction railway station.
As a first step, they have started renovating the information centre, which would be completed in a month’s time. At present, the information centre has been functioning near the main entrance.
“It will be shifted to a spacious area nearby. The relocation will provide more space for passengers,” said Ernakulam Southern Railway area manager P L Ashok Kumar.
The railways is also in the process of providing more seating facilities in all the five platforms in the station.
At present, only the first platform has sufficient chairs for passengers. Railway authorities said they have approached several organizations to sponsor chairs. The eastern entrance of the station is also short of seating facilities.
Over 60 trains, including 48-50 express trains and 10-12 passenger trains pass through the station daily. The average daily boarding from the station is 20,000.
