Lucknow  : A mentally retarded woman, who has been raped by several men, has given birth to a baby in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur town, about 350 km from here.The woman, who is also deaf and dumb, spent days at the railway station as she had no place to stay.According to reports, it was the woman’s third baby. She had been repeatedly raped by unidentified culprits.Reports said the woman was seen writhing in pain near the railway tracks a few metres away from the railway station. She gave birth to a female child near the tracks a few days ago.She was taken to government hospital in the town by some people. Ironically the victim is not in a position to reveal the identity of the offenders as she is not only mentally retarded but also dumb and deaf.Two women constables had been deployed at the hospital for the security of the victim, officials said.Hospital officials said two other children of the victim had been adopted a few days after their delivery. “Many people have come forward to adopt the new born...we are examining their requests,” officials said.Doctors said they planned to send the woman to “Nari Niketan” (a women's home) as both she and the infant needed care.“The question of giving the child in adoption will be considered by the Nari Niketan authorities,” they said.The matter has also been reported to the police who have promised a thorough investigation. The tragic story once more brings to the fore the question of security of destitute women.
