Title - Manned level crossing at Andalampettai

The unmanned level crossing at Andalampettai between Kumbakonam and Aduthurai, has been converted into a manned level crossing from Friday. According to Southern Railway sources, the action follows the accident that occurred on December 16 last year in which two persons were killed when the Jan Shatabdi express hit a Tata Sumo car at the spot. The gate will be manned round the clock, sources said.Southern Railway has spent Rs.10 lakhs for converting the gate into a manned one.Now the gate has become non-terlocked one with control through signalling system from Aduthurai railway station.Surface road has been relaid. Road indicators have been installed.Ten unmanned level crossings in Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur section will be converted into manned ones during the year 2013, sources said
