A man met with a tragic end while he was trying to board the Kottayam-Kollam paasenger at Chengannur railway station on Thursday morning.

Surendran, 50, Idayile Veedu, Kizhakke Kallada in Kollam, died after he fell into the gap between the platform and running train while attempting to board the train. The incident took place at 6.30 a.m. Surendran, a mason, had been staying in a rented house in Chengannur for the past two decades. He was on his way to the workplace in Kottayam when the mishap took place.

According to the police, his hand slipped from the hand grip of the train while he was trying to board the train. He suffered fatal injuries in the fall.

Though he was rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital, his life could not be saved. The body was handed over to relatives after the postmortem.
