GULBARGA: “Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has promised that the Solapur–Yeshwantpur superfast Express, which runs on alternate days, would be converted into a daily train once new coaches are available,” said Union Labour and Employment Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge.Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Kharge said there was a huge gap between the demand and supply of railway coaches due to shortage in production. Mr. Bansal was responding to a letter written by Mr. Kharge in this regard.Regarding the delay in the execution of the Gulbarga–Bidar rail line, Mr. Kharge stated that according to Mr. Bansal, it had been caused by the State government’s failure to bear its share of the project cost.“The Railway Minister and the Planning Commission have also said that there was a lack of clarity from the State government on sharing the cost of the proposed Wadi–Gadag railway line. They have also sought certain clarifications on the survey of the Shahbad–Kuduchi line,” Mr. Kharge said.He had also taken up the long-pending demand for the establishment of a new divisional railway headquarters here. The Railway Ministry had raised a few clarifications on the jurisdictional limits of the proposed headquarters, and pointed out that Gulbarga was close to Solapur ( Central Railway), Secunderabad (South Central Railway), and Guntakal (South Central Railway).“I have not given up hope for a divisional headquarters here, and will continue to exert pressure on this matter,” Mr. Kharge said. Regarding the demand for an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for red gram, the Minister said he had raised the issue during a recent meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He had sought an increase in the existing MSP of Rs. 3,850 a quintal to Rs. 4,500. Mr. Kharge said as per the Prime Minister’s advice, he had spoken to the Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar in this regard.
