Title - Jaypee's Rajiv Gaur responsible for his tragic death: Railway ministry

The railway ministry has said that the "own, avoidable actions" of Rajeev Gaur, executive vice president of Jaypee Power Venture Limited's (JPVL) are responsible for his tragic death and the ministry and the assistant station master (ASM) of Mandi Bamora should not be held responsible.

Gaur (48), died on Sunday after falling off the door of Southern Link Express, on the outskirts of Kulhar railway station in Vidisha district.

The railway ministry had sought a report on the tragic incident and suspended ASM of Mandi Bamora station.

"The inquiry report has come. Rajeev Gaur died doing something that he should not have done. Gaur tried to get inside the first two AC compartments of the train that were service compartments. Secondly, he had reservation from Bina station but he reached Mandi Bamora to board the train," K K Dubey West Central Railway spokesperson said.

After missing the train at Bina, Gaur, along with his private security guard RC Gurjar, decided to catch the train at the nearest Mandi Bamora station, where it had a stoppage of just two minutes. The distance between Bina and Mandi Bamora is hardly 30 kms.

Gaur reached Mandi Bamora station, but by that time the train had started leaving the platform.

"Gaur tried to get inside the train from the first two AC compartments. However, the two coaches behind the engine of the 24-coach train were the service compartments. For safety reasons service coaches are locked from inside and are opened by railway staff only at desired locations," he added.

Actually, Gaur's AC-II coach was 16th from the engine and not second and third from the engine, Dubey said while referring to the inquiry report.

Gaur was trying to board the AC-II bogie at Mandi Bamora but the door of compartment was closed.

Unable to board the train to reach Bhopal, Gaur instructed his private security guard Ramcharan Gurjar to open some other door for him.

Meanwhile, when the train picked up speed, Gaur held on to the iron bars of the door, hoping that somebody would open it.

On seeing Gaur clinging to the door rods, Gurjar rushed to the assistant station master's office and sought help from GRP personnel. But by that time it was late. The train had picked up speed and Gaur managed to hang on to the bar for almost 8 kilometres up to Kulhar station but fell after he reportedly rammed a pole on the side of the track.

Gaur, was looking after the upcoming Bina thermal power project at Bina. The project with a capacity of 1250 mega watt is expected to be commissioned shortly. Rajeev Gaur is the cousin of Jaypee Group's executive chairman Manoj Gaur. After the post-mortem in Bhopal, his body was flown to Delhi on late Sunday evening.
