A Jamaican national, who was trying to flee after dumping a bag at the New Delhi railway station on Thursday, was overpowered by an auto-rickshaw driver and other passers-by. The police suspect his involvement in some cheating racket.Satnam, an auto-rickshaw driver, was waiting for someone inside the railway station premises when he spotted a foreign national leaving after dropping his bag under mysterious circumstances around 11 a.m. When he accosted the foreigner, he started fleeing.Suspecting that something was amiss, Satnam raised an alarm and started chasing the foreigner. He along with some cab drivers intercepted the person and handed him over to security personnel. A bomb squad was summoned to examine the bag, but no explosives were found. The police found an electronic safe that contained some papers. The accused identified himself as Martin Blair, a Jamaican national, who had been living at Hastsal in Uttam Nagar.“We are yet to trace his passport,” said a police officer. The police plan to engage an interpreter to interrogate the accused who may be booked under the Foreigners’ Act. Investigations will also be conducted to ascertain when he came to India and whether his land-lord had intimated the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office (FRRO) and, in case he stayed beyond six months, whether he got himself registered with the FRRO. | ||
