Jaipur: Railways station here needs more platforms and other infrastructure to handle the rush of growing number of trains originating and terminating here. Presently, the station has five platforms. The shortage of platforms often results in trains waiting at the outer signal at Civil Lines railway crossing. Passengers have been complaining that often a train reaches Jaipur on time but is halted at the outer signal as there is no vacant platform at the junction. “Many times, despite arriving in Jaipur, we get late as train halts at Civil Lines crossing,” said a passenger who frequently travels by Jaipur-Bandra Express. The problem is more with the trains which ply twice every week and holiday special trains as they do not have designated platforms. So these trains have to wait for platforms to get vacant. Notably, around 80 trains pass through Jaipur. Many of them either originate or terminate at this station. Therefore, they need space for parking. Moreover, the space to wash trains is also less and railway officials have themselves proposed that this facility should be moved to 22 Godown area to expand the platforms at the junction. Large stations like Kanpur and Agra have eight platforms and better infrastructure, said railway officials, adding that Jaipur needs to catch up with them soon. “I have been taking up the matter of improving the infrastructure of Jaipur Railway Station since long,” said Mahesh Joshi, MP from Jaipur. | ||
