Title - Iron ore helps South Eastern Rly cross freight target

KOLKATA, AUG 19:  Improvement in iron ore loading in June and July helped South Eastern Railway surpass its target for freight loading during April-July. It recorded 41.16 million tonnes of freight during the period against a target of 37.92 million tonnes.

According to a press release, it loaded 22.77 million tonnes of iron ore during the period, compared to 22.26 million tonnes in the same period last year. The regional Railway unit also reported an increase in loading of pig iron and finished steel, cement, food grains, and petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) cargo.

South Eastern Railway posted a nearly 12 per cent increase in earnings from passenger traffic to Rs 415 crore during April-July, as against Rs 371 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Earnings from passengers witnessed an upward trend both in the suburban as well as non-suburban segments. During the first four months of this fiscal, it carried nearly 91 million passengers, up by about 5 per cent over last year, the release said. The unit reported gross earnings of about Rs 3,607 crore during the period (including freight and passengers).
