ALLAHABAD: To check touting activities at railway stations and provide respite to passengers, chairman of Railway Board Vinay Mittal has written a letter to the general manager of North Central Railway Alok Johri for the installation of internet-based surveillance system from which monitoring of public/front line staff interface in the passenger reservation system/booking offices can be made.

This system has already been installed in Northern Railway and is performing well.

The letter states that as part of concerted drive against touting activities as also for monitoring of public/front line staff interface, in the passenger reservation centres/booking offices, Northern Railway has successfully introduced an internet based surveillance system where video cameras have been installed at strategic public interface locations-inside PRS offices, in the passenger queuing areas, platforms and circulating areas. Video cameras have been connected to the control rooms located 'at major stations and further integrated with Railnet through OFC communication channels.
