The Assembly Committee on railways under the chairmanship of Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister in the first week of February for a special package in the Railway Budget-2013-14 to the State.
The House panel, which met here under the chairmanship of Speaker Amat, decided to write to the Prime Minister’s Office to give a date during the first week of February for the meeting. The committee would write to the Union Railway Minister to give a date for an audience of the panel members. During the meeting with the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister, the committee would submit a comprehensive proposal for allocation of funds for expediting railway projects and take up new railway projects, including introduction of new trains and upgradation of tracks and electrification.

Recently, the Chief Minister had submitted a proposal for railway package worth Rs 2,300 crore for the railway development in the State to the Prime Minister. He had urged the Prime Minister to introduce as many as 11 new trains and declare four projects as national projects.

The committee asked the Commerce and Transport department to prepare the detail proposal for budget estimate for the State and submit it within three days so that it would be finalised in the next meeting on January 21, official sources said.
