With Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda inaugurating the Rewari-Jhajjar-Rohtak railway line — connecting north and south Haryana — on Tuesday, the state finally got a new railway line after a gap of 34 years. In 1979, the state had got new a railway line connecting Bhiwani and Rohtak.

Accompanied by Union Minister of State for Railways KJ Surya Prakash Reddy and Congress MP Deepender Hooda, the chief minister, while addressing a large gathering, also announced that he has urged the Centre to run a Shatabdi Express between Jaipur and Chandigarh.

Hooda and Reddy both travelled in a train from Rewari to Rohtak after the inauguration. The 81-km-long Rewari-Jhajjar-Rohtak railway line has cost Rs 602 crore — the half of which has been borne by the state government. In all, there will be five stations between Rewari and Rohtak — Gokalgarh, Palhawas, Machhrauli, Jhajjar and Dighal. The new line will directly benefit two Lok Sabha and eight Assembly constituencies in Haryana.

“On October 7, 2007, Sonia Gandhi had laid the foundation of this project. This project has not only connected Rewari with Rohtak and Chandigarh, but also connected the area with Kandala port. This line will give a big boost to the industry,” Hooda said at the Rewari railway station.

Slamming INLD and BJP combine, Hooda said: “During INLD-BJP regime from 1999-2005, Rs 435 crore was spent in Rewari. After 2005, when the Congress government came to power, Rs 3,169 crore has been spent here.”

Power Minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav, who was also present on the occasion, said: “The new railway line has been commissioned due to the efforts of the chief minister and his son Deepender Singh Hooda. This line will help students, as the travelling time to Rohtak University will be reduced.”
