Title - ECoR ORGANISED SEMINAR ON GLOBAL HEAVY HAUL EXPERIENCE AND INDIAN RAILWAYS

A seminar o­n “Global Heavy Haul experience and Indian Railways” was organised by Institute of Rail Transport (IRT)/ECoR Chapter at Rail Sadan, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, today under the chairmanship of Shri Indra Ghosh, General Manager, East Coast Railway and Chairman of IRT/ECoR Chapter.In the key note address, Shri Ghosh, discussed o­n the subject with his vast experience and cited many examples o­n Heavy Haul and its advantages and disadvantages. Shri Ghosh also said that, this seminar will provide an opportunity to learn about the latest technological developments in the field of heavy haul from peers and experts.The Genesis, essentials, impediments, salient features and success stories of Heavy Haul operations including subjects o­n Track & Bridge, Rolling Stock, Locomotives, Signalling & Telecommunication and Traffic control, safety, Terminal Management System etc. had taken place in the seminar.
The focus of the seminar was sharing knowledge and experience among railway officers in the area of Heavy Haul Railway Operations. The seminar topic cover on various aspects of rail operations including track, rolling stock, wheel/rail interaction, new materials and metallurgy, freight operations under mixed traffic conditions, safety and derailment prevention, locomotives and traction power, modern track construction technologies and economics of operations have also been discussed.
Participating in the seminar and presenting a paper o­n “Heavy Haul Train Operations scenario-World over & o­n Indian Railways”, Shri G. D. Brahma, Chief Operations Manager of East Coast Railway presented his view for adoption of state of the art technology and dedicated corridor for freight movement.
Amongst others, Shri P. V. Ramana, Chief Signal Engineer, Shri S. K. Pankaj, Chief Rolling Stock Engineer, Shri J. N. L. Das, Chief Track Engineer and Shri S. K. Patel, Chief Electrical Locomotive Engineer of East Coast Railway presented their views o­n the seminar.
The seminar was attended by all Principal Heads of the Departments of East Coast Railway, senior Railway Officers of ECoR including Shri S. K. Mohanty, Divisional Railway Manager of Khurda Road.
