KOLKATA: To clear the rush of passengers during Diwali, Chhat and other festivals, Eastern Railway will run 124 trips of special trains in November to popular destinations across the country. In addition to this, extra coaches will be attached to regular trains moving towards popular destinations. Special care is being taken to ensure that these trains as well as regular ones run smoothly and passengers do not suffer due to congestion along the routes.

"Eastern Railway also ran 119 trips of special trains in October to clear the extra rush of passengers during Durga Puja and Navaratri. This created thousands of additional berths and seats to facilitate a very large number of additional passengers. Many people need to travel during the festive season. While some are tourists, others return home from their places of work.

Other modes of travel like air and road get expensive during these seasons. This year, to mitigate the problems faced by people, Indian Railways decided to run as many special trains as possible. While doing so, the railways were fully aware of the impact that such a decision may have, particularly on popular destinations and routes which are already choked due to heavy congestion. All efforts are being made to monitor the running of these trains," an ER official said.
