BHUBANESWAR: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved highest incremental loading amongst all railway zones till December, 2012, of the current financial year and occupied second position in overall freight loading, said general manager of the zone IndraGhosh on Saturday.

He was hoisting the Tricolour during the Republic Day celebration at railway stadium here.

Ghosh said the zone during the period loaded 95.53 MT freight, which is 9.6% more than that during the corresponding period last year. Similarly, the ECoR carried 66.28 million passengers during the period registering a growth of 3.71% over last year.

The zone also provided 4.43 lakh additional berths in trains till December, 2012. Besides, steps have been taken to provide facilities like computerized booking of retiring room and dormitories, additional platform sheds at different stations, FOBs and waiting halls, Ghosh added.

Ghosh said the railway zone, despite having less infrastructure for sports and games, organized a mega event like all India men and women volleyball championship for the first time.
