A cross-country train trip for 1,000 under-graduate students announced by the Delhi University in April will start from on July 1, carrying a women-only contingent of NSS and NCC students on a 12-day expedition, programme coordinators said on Saturday.

“A train from the Indian Railways will be hired for the trip. It will be called the Gyanodaya Express. The trip will involve educational projects on the areas travelled and with group discussions. All expenses will be borne by the university,” said Dr C S Dubey, Head of Department of Geology, who is heading the organising committee for the trip.

The journey will cover Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and Wardha. On the itinerary are places including Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat Vidyapith, ISRO headquarters in Bangalore, Sevagram in Wardha as well as the naval bases in Mumbai and Goa.

One woman faculty member from each participating college, along with NSS and NCC faculty, will accompany the contingent.
