An amount of Rs.2 lakh was collected as penalties from around 400 passengers in a six-hour drive against ticketless travel conducted by the Waltair Division of East Coast Railway.Around 30 employees, including ticket checking staff and squad and Railway Protection Force conducted the checks, under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager M. Yelvender Yadava, on the Tirupati – Bilaspur, Palasa – Visakhapatnam Passenger, Visakhapatnam – Palasa MEMU and other trains on Friday. Interestingly, there was 100 per cent compliance on the carrying of ID proofs by passengers in the reserved coaches. Passengers travelling in reserved coaches without identity proofs will be treated as ‘ticketless’ travellers. The authorities plan to conduct more such drives in future, according to a spokesman of the railways. |
