The flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi were suspended for over an hour because of a dense fog of the winter. The fog enveloped the airport at around 7am forcing delays of around 20 flights. The fog has enhanced the chill weather in the city, with temperature plummeting to a minimum of 7 degree Celsius. The operations were going normally early in the morning as the runway visibility was about 200 metres. However a dense fog enveloped the airport at 7 am and the visibility of the runway dropped to zero. The situation started to improve after 8:30 am and the visibility rose to 300 metres. The dense fog has also affected the rail network. Many trains were delayed. The Amritsar Shatabdi was late by one and a half hours and the Malwa Express from Indore to Jammu was late by over three hours. The Meteorological Department predicts that the city will be affected by fog for the next few days. | ||
