Title - CBI arrests three Central Railway officials in separate cases of bribery

In the first case, the CBI has arrested the Senior Divisional Engineer, Central Railway, Nagpur for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.3.53 lakh from a contractor.

It was alleged in the complaint that the accused had demanded one per cent commission of the total amount of bills as bribe from the complainant for smooth running of contract agreement pertaining to supply of stacking of ballast and loading the same into the railway's hoppers at Hinganghat depot.

The CBI laid a trap and the accused was allegedly caught red-handed for having demanded and accepted the amount of Rs.3.53 lakh at his residence, a press release from the agency said.

In another case, a contrctor alleged that an Office Superintendent(Rates), Central Railway, Nagpur had demanded a sum of Rs.1 lakh as a bribe for smooth running of a contract agreement. A trap was laid and the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.

In a similar case, the CBI has arrested another Office Superintendent of Central Railway, Nagpur for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.1 lakh from a contractor. The complainant had alleged that the official had demanded the bribe for the bills against which payment had already been made and also for the bills whose payments were due in respect to the contract for supply of ballast that was awarded to his firm. A sum of Rs.49,000 was also recovered from his personal search which is in addition to the bribe amount, the release said.

All the arrested accused were produced in the Special Court for CBI Cases, Nagpur and were remanded to police custody till December 14, the release added.
