On January 14 Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will flag off a new Shatabdi to run between Chandigarh and Delhi. Meanwhile cold and fog continues to keep planes grounded and trains running at slow speed. The new Shatabdi is scheduled to start from January 14. However, as of Tuesday the Superintendent of the Chandigarh Railway Station was unable to give any details about the train such as the numbers of the Up and down trains or the arrival and departure times. As per Railway Ministry information, the fare is to be less than that of the Jan Shatabdi. A Rail Ministry official informed that the new Shatabdi will have one Executive Class coach and the rest will be Chair Cars. More coaches will be added including Executive Class coach later on depending on the demand, the official said. Already two sets of Shatabdi Express trains run between New Delhi and Chandigarh but demand was there for another train due to long wait lists in the existing trains. Passengers have welcomed the new addition. Meanwhile fog continues to slow rail traffic and arrival and departure times have become highly uncertain. One of the worst affected trains is the Unchahaar Express that plies between Allahabad and Chandigarh. It is running up to 11 hours late. Train delays Jan Shatabdi 12058 90 mins Howrah-Kalka 12311, 7 hrs Unchahaar Exp 14217, 11 hrs Sadbhavna Exp 12231, 10 hrs Himalayan Queen 14095, 30 mins Poor visibility has also halted traffic at the Chandigarh airport. No plane took off. Of nine scheduled arrivals only one was still running but it was delayed. This was the Indi Go flight from Mumbai.
