Title - Another church in Chennai develops cracks due to Metro Rail tunneling works

CHENNAI: A few days after 169-year-old CSI Tamil Wesley Church at Broadway developed cracks due to the tunnelling work for the metro rail; crevasses appeared on the walls of another old church in the same area.

Authorities of the Arcot Lutheran Church, which was built in 1892, found the cracks when they opened it for service on Monday morning.

Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) inspected the cracks and promised to take remedial measures.

When TOI visited the church on Monday afternoon, vibrations from the boring machine could be felt on the railings of the building.

CSI Tamil Wesley Church, located two buildings away on the same road, had developed cracks a few days ago, and CMRL officials offered to repair the building when they met the members of the parish on Sunday.
