Title - 5 tonnes rice seized

An attempt to smuggle over five tonnes of ration rice was thwarted by Revenue officials here on Tuesday.The officials seized 150 bags of rice hidden in bushes on the sides of railway track at Thammalerimuthur near Tirupattur. Following a tip-off, a team led by R. Sampath, Tirupattur tahsildar, found the rice. Taluk Supply Officer of Tirupattur was also part of the team. “About 5.86 tonnes of ration rice was seized. There is a signal point near Thammalerimuthur and trains stop here waiting for signal for two or three minutes. The bags might have been hidden here to be loaded onto the trains,” an official said.
