Two minor children found wandering at Tirupur Railway Station on Sunday were rescued by volunteers of SAVE, a Tirupur-based NGO involved in the welfare of orphaned and economically poor children.SAVE sources said of the two children, one was a girl aged 15 years from Tiruchi.“According to her statement, she was forcefully taken away from Tiruchi by a gang in a car and she managed to escape from their clutches at Tirupur,” sources added. The girl, who lost her father a few years ago, was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) functioning under the district administration and then handed over to her family members.Regarding the boy, SAVE sources said he hails from Dindigul district and came to Tirupur from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala by train.

Harassment

“An interaction with him revealed that he ran away from his house a year back after being subjected to harassment by his stepmother. He then spent his life begging in Thiruvananthapuram,” sources added. The boy has been lodged in the shelter home run by SAVE and efforts were on to unite him with his family.
