BHOPAL: A man from Maharashtra was nabbed at the Bhopal railway station on Saturday for carrying fire crackers in contravention to the railway rules.

On Saturday, a flying squad of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) caught Pradeep Chaudhary, 23, for carrying firecrackers of around Rs 800. The man was charged under the Section 164 of Railway Act, 1989.

Carrying inflammable materials or objects like fireworks, explosives, crackers, gas cylinders, petrol and kerosene in trains is a punishable offence. The offender may get a three-year jail term or be fined Rs 1,000 or both under Section 164 of Railway Act, 1989. Besides, a compounding fee of Rs 500 can be imposed under the Section 165.

The man has been booked at RPF Post, Jabalpur.

The three divisions of West Central Railway (WCR) have constituted flying squads for checking inflammable materials and objects like fireworks due to the upcoming festival of Diwali. Dog squads are also assisting the flying squads in the exercise.

The squads are operational from November 7. Three persons have been booked in various passengers trains like Jabalpur - Itarsi passenger train and Katni - Satna passenger train for carrying fireworks. Twice, around 30 kg of fireworks were seized while once around 20 packets were seized.
