ARMED ESCORTS FOR TRAINS

The Railway Board has supplied eight specially built bullet-proof bogies to the North-East Frontier Railway in order to carry armed personnel for escorting passenger trains, it is learnt from Railway sources in Gauhati on July 28. These bogies will be attached to passenger trains passing through the hostile Naga-infested regions — Lumbding to Mariani — a distance of about 170 kilometres and Lumding to Maibong, a distance of about 65 kilometres. Each bogie would be able to carry about 25 armed personnel and each passenger train would have two such bogies attached to it.
