The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has urged the Union Ministry of Railways to issue an order expediting the survey work of Royapuram terminus in Chennai and sanction adequate funds for operating more trains from Madurai.Accompanied by the Dindigul Member of Parliament N. S. V. Chitthan, an association delegation led by president S. P. Jeyapragasam met the Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy in New Delhi recently and submitted a memorandum.It also requested him to allot the necessary funds to complete doubling of railway tracks between Chengalpattu and Dindigul within a couple of years.Besides calling for introducing a new rail service between Palani and Chennai, it also called for completing the works taken up in Palani-Pollachi and Palani-Palakkad sections.Further, the trade body also demanded the early completion of Madurai-Bodi-Kumuli rail project and a railway track between Virudhunagar and Manamadurai besides doubling of track lines in the Madurai-Tiruneveli and Madurai-Tuticorin routes.The Association also called for another train service between Madurai and Bangalore along with a day-time train service in this route.
