Southern Railway has clarified that Bhagavathy, the gatekeeper at a railway crossing in Ganapathy, was not inebriated. In a release, the Railway says that two members of the public, in an inebriated condition, entered into an argument with Mr. Bhagavathy on Saturday, when the Myladuthurai Janshatabdi was approaching the level crossing.

As he was involved in the brawl, he could not close the gates.

This led the Loco Pilot to stop the vehicle, get off the train and reach the gatekeeper’s cabin to ascertain the problem.

The Loco Pilot then alerted the officials about the problem.
