RailXpert | Gehlot demands new rail line between Ujjain- Jhalawad on : September 01, 2013 - 17:57:36 PM |
BJP national general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot demanded the Union government to lay a new railway line between Ujjain Junction and Jhalawad. Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha under the Rule 180 on Friday, Gehlot said that the people of Agar district have been in deep resentment due to the non- availability of train facility. He informed the House that there happened to be a narrow gauze line between Ujjain and Agar before Independence and trains used to arrive and depart till 1975- 76; but during the Emergency, the track was fished- out. Since 1976, the people had been demanding a new railway line between Ujjain- Agar- Jhalawad and Ramganj Mandi. Both NDA and UPA governments had carried out a survey in this regard, but the new railway line has not been sanctioned yet, he informed. |

Mafia | Kerala trains to have OBHS facilities on : September 01, 2013 - 18:00:34 PM |
Kochi: Tired of complaining about untidy toilets, trash left behind in the train, or dirt and grime in a coach. The railways promises to change all that as it plans to implement the ‘On Board Housekeeping Services’ (OBHS) in select trains originating from the state for the first time.“The OBHS will be introduced in mail and express trains starting from the division for the first time. This is as part of the efforts to raise the cleanliness rating from one star to three star. We’re preparing the list of trains which will be announced next week,” Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal told DC.Under the scheme, a team of cleaning workers has been hired by the railways to keep coach toilets, doorways, aisles and passenger coaches neat and clean during the journey from the originating to terminating stations. However, the cash-strapped railways would incur substantial expenditure on OBHS scheme and hence it would be implemented on select popular trains like the Netravati Express. The complaints of old and untidy coaches being used in trains running through the state were there for some time. However, the railway official said the situation has changed in the past two years. “Now we’ve better long-distance trains than those running in the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,’’ he said. The OBHS scheme has laid down criterion such as nature of train service, journey time/period, pattern of maintenance etc. The scheme has so far been implemented in around 385 trains. |

Jitendar | Delhi Metro viaduct to cross over railway line, Modi Mill flyover at Okhla on : September 01, 2013 - 19:56:29 PM |
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today said its engineers were drawing up plans to meet two major construction-related challenges on its Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor, which will cross the ever busy Delhi-Mumbai railway line as well as two loops of the Modi Mill flyover at Okhla in the city.A DMRC press release said the elevated viaduct of the underconstruction Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden corridor would pass over the Delhi – Mumbai railway tracks as well as the Modi Mill flyover between the Okhla Phase 3 and Ishwar Nagar Metro stations. These two Metro stations will be located at a distance of about one kilometre from each other. For crossing the railway corridor, which consists of five tracks, DMRC is planning to install a steel bridge because it will cause minimal disruption to the railway operations below. This bridge will cross the tracks at a height of about 17 metres. The requisite permissions for starting construction work over the railway lines is expected soon, the release said. After crossing the railway tracks, the viaduct will also pass over two loops of the Modi Mill flyover which lead to the two sides of the Mathura Road below (towards Ashram and towards Badarpur). The construction work over both these crucial loops will be carried out without causing any disruption to the flow of traffic below, it said. While the length of the span crossing over the first loop towards Ashram will be 34 metres, the length of the span over the second loop towards Badarpur will be 37 metres. Segmental launching technology will be used for carrying out construction on this stretch. The viaduct will come up at both the locations at a height of 17 metres. The construction work of this portion of the viaduct has already been started. While work on the construction of the piers near the flyover are almost over, the launching girder to be used for the launching of the segments has also started work about a fortnight back. The construction of the viaduct over these two loops of the Modi Mill flyover is expected to be completed by the end of October, the release said. As the alignment of the corridor is passing along the Modi Mill flyover, the area available to the engineers for constructing the viaduct is also very narrow. Despite such space constraint, the Modi Mill flyover has been kept entirely available for traffic, it said. |
