BANGALORE: South-Western Railways will be constructing a world class railway station that can handle around five lakh passengers every day at Byappanahalli, shortly.The Railway Board recently approved the plan for the proposed railway station which will be the biggest in the zone. This station will have the capacity to handle around 100 pairs of trains.At present, Bangalore city railway station is the biggest railway station in the city and it can handle around 1.5 lakh passengers every day.The railway station will be designed to become a nodal point as it can be easily connected to all the major railway routes in the region. The concerned railway authorities and other state government agencies are making plans to provide easy access to the other modes of transport like BMTC and Metro for the passengers from the railway station. Provisions would be made to connect both Yeshwantpur and Bangalore City railway stations from the new railway station.At present both Yeshwantpur and Bangalore City railway stations are handling more passenger traffic than their capacity and it is not possible to introduce new trains from these stations.On an average, seven to eight new trains are introduced to the city every year and the new railway station is expected to meet the needs of the city for another 15 years.South-Western Railways Chief Administrative Officer S Vijay Kumar said, "For the first time in the history of the Indian Railways, this railway station will be constructed on publicprivate partnership basis. According to our estimates it will cost Rs 400 crore for laying the tracks and other railway works in the station. It may cost much more to provide passenger amenities and services.’’ Indian Railways is planning to develop 16 such railway stations in different parts of the country. |

Owing to heavy rains, the power & traffic blocks of 7 hrs. each scheduled for undertaking the work of replacement of girders of Bridge No. 14 between Tilak Bridge- Hazrat Nizamuddin stations of Delhi Division during night hours of 16/17.8.2013 & 17/18.08.2013 had been postponed till further notice.Now, these two blocks have been planed to avail in the night of 30/31.08.2013( Friday/Saturday) & 31.8.2013/01.09.2013 (Saturday & Sunday) from 10.30 p.m. to 5.30 a.m.The trains scheduled to run during the period of block will be cleared by other available lines. Thus, the rail traffic will not be affected due to traffic blocks and will run as per their schedule. |

Global majors are in the race for providing design consultancy services for Ahmedabad leg of Rs 19,000 crore Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro project.The Metro-link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) has received huge response from Indian companies and those from the USA, Germany, French, South Korea, Netherlands and Spain.Twentysix companiesconsortia have submitted expressions of interest (EOIs) in response to an invitation by MEGA in July. Indian majors like Larsen & Toubro and Tata Consulting Engineers, too, have submitted EOIs, an official said on Thursday.MEGA is the special purpose vehicle (SPV) floated by the Gujarat government to conceive, design and execute the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro. The EOIs were invited for the preparation of design and other operational and functional information related to construction of elevated (over ground) metro stations.This Metro has been conceived as the most technically advanced metro project undertaken so far in India. The project is being executed on an EPC basis with MEGA itself functioning as the EPC contractor and going forward it will be the operations and maintenance contractor too.Based on CBTC technology it will pioneer driverless trains in India as well as offer Wi-Fi connectivity on the move. The frequency between two trains will be 90 seconds, the lowest in the world. Its core infrastructure work will begin in October 2013. |

Repair work on the two churches on Prakasam Salai in Broadway that developed cracks due to Metro Rail work has begun, and is progressing well.The 152-year-old CSI Tamil Wesley Church and the 121-year-old Arcot Lutheran Church — classified as Grade 2A heritage structures by the Justice E. Padmanabhan Committee Report —were damaged last month, when a tunnel boring machine (TBM) drilled underneath the churches as part of underground Metro Rail work from Mannady to Madras High Court.Restoration work was begun for the Arcot church last week and for the CSI Tamil Wesley church on Saturday. While the Arcot Lutheran Church had suffered only a few minor cracks, the CSI Tamil Wesley Church had a few cracks that were 10 mm wide and a few others that were about 2-3 mm wide.“We started repair work on the churches last week and plan to complete it soon. The work is being carried out as per suggestions given by experts from IIT-Madras who had inspected the churches,” said an official of Chennai Metro Rail Limited. |

यात्रियों को स्वच्छ पर्यावरण प्रदान करने के प्रति अपनी वचनबद्धता का निर्वाह करते हुए भारतीय रेलवे ने विभिन्न रेलगाड़ियों के 1400 डिब्बों में 3800 जैव शौचालयों की व्यवस्था की है। चालू वित्त वर्ष के पहले चार महीनों में जैव शौचालयों की व्यवस्था के कार्य में तेजी से प्रगति हुई है। इस दौरान जितनी संख्या में डिब्बों में जैव शौचालाय चालू किए गए हैं, उतने पिछले तीन वर्ष में चालू किए गए थे। यह प्रयोग सबसे पहले जनवरी, 2011 में ग्वालियर-वाराणसी बुंदेलखंड एक्सप्रेस में किया गया था। इस्तेमालकर्ताओं से अच्छी फीडबैक मिलने के बाद यात्री डिब्बों में जैव शौचालयों के रख रखाव के काम में तेजी लाई गई। |
