riteshexpert | ‘What’s the point of talks if Centre won’t create states?’ on : August 29, 2013 - 20:57:07 PM |
GUWAHATI: Fears of fresh unrest over statehood demands in Assam resurfaced after the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that it has no plans to create any more new states in the country. Ethnic groups seeking separate states are now skeptical about the objective of the tripartite talks for which they have been invited by the Centre to New Delhi next month. The All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), which is leading the demand for a separate state of Kamatapur for the Koch-Rajbongshi community, has threatened to call off talks if the first round scheduled on September 3 does not turn out to be encouraging. The All Bodo Students' Union, on the other hand, which is demanding a separate state of Bodoland, has also threatened to review its decision to suspend the 24-hour rail blockade it had called on September 10 after the tripartite talks to be held on September 4.The AKRSU now wants the Centre to apprise both the houses of Parliament about the objective of the tripartite talks with the statehood seeking groups from the state. "This is a double-speak by the Centre. If the Centre has no plans to create any new states, then what is the objective of the tripartite talks it plans to hold with us on September 3. Under the circumstances, it is meaningless to hold talks ," AKRSU president Biswajit Ray said. |

railgenie | Sting operation: Railway police harassing, beating up passengers who refuse to give them money on : August 29, 2013 - 20:57:45 PM |
Gorakhpur: Do you know that poor people travelling in general coaches of Awadh Assam Express and Janseva Express have to shell out extra money even after buying the tickets for their journey? Travel in general coaches of the train and see how the GRP (Government Railway Police) personnel harass you if you don’t give money to them. Dainikibhaskar.com was informed about the incidents and the team decided to investigate the matter. One of our reporters boarded the train and stayed at the station to find out the scenario. It’s sad but true that poor people who are travelling in the general compartments of the train have to give money to the personnel who board the train at Gorakhpur. The uniform-clad personnel snatch the identity cards and tickets from people unless they give them money therefore people are forced to shell out that extra money to fill their pockets. It’s a real shame that the personnel who are deployed for safety of the people are looting them in the name of checking tickets. Any senior of official of the GRP or Railways are not ready to take any action against them. Our reporter who performed the sting operation also saw some of the GRP personnel beating up people when they denied them the money. Some of them were also forcibly made to deboard the train if they would give them money. It was also found that sometimes the GRP personnel used to forcibly take the identity cards and tickets from labourers who worked in small cities of Delhi and Haryana. One of the passengers Jamal spoke to Dainikbhaskar.com said that he was going to Saharsa from Delhi. AT Gorakhpur, GRP personnel asked for his identity card and then asked for money. Jamal denied giving money, saying that he has bought the ticket. The angry personnel damaged his ID by pouring a bottle of water on it. There were many passengers like Jamal and had complaint to police but they did not take any action. We bring you some shocking pictures which show the personnel torturing the passengers. |
